Quartetto Werther - Concert à la Blanche Eglise, La Neuveville
La Blanche Église - La Neuveville
This young and very inspired ensemble is playing on a high professional level, always showing their great passion and profound interest in music. The prizes they won and the big experience they have already due to their very active concert career, prove a great potential. (Patrick Jüdt, Director of Bern ECMA Session).
Winner of the XXXIX Franco Abbiati Prize, Piero Farulli Prize 2020, third prize at the "Pinerolo" International Chamber Music Competition and at the "Trio di Trieste" International Chamber Music Competition, the Quartetto Werther is currently one of the emerging Italian chamber music ensembles with a remarkable rise on the national and international concert scene. They also won second prize at the Concorso Internazionale di Musica da Camera - Premio Luigi Boccherini di Lucca and at the Concorso Internazionale Luigi Nono. In 2019 the quartet won the Alberto Burri prize promoted by the 52nd Festival delle Nazioni.
The quartet obtained its diploma in 2022 from the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia with a "special mention for exceptional chamber music skills", a recognition never before awarded to a chamber music ensemble since the courses were established in 1939.
The Quartetto Werther has already participated in numerous concerts and collaborated with important festivals and concert associations, including the Fondazione Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Bologna Festival, the Fondazione Perugia Musica Classica, the Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto, the Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti, the Amici della Musica di Firenze, the Moscow International House of Music, the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Musikàmera, the Teatro Ristori di Verona, the Associazione Angelo Mariani di Ravenna, the Teatro Sociale di Como, the Associazione Chamber Music di Trieste, the Festival Bartolomeo Cristofori di Padova, the Amici della Musica di Palermo, the Accademia Filarmonica di Messina, the Festival delle Nazioni, the Fondazione Musicale Santa Cecilia di Portogruaro, the Società dei Concerti di Parma, the Ente Concerti di Pesaro and the Festival Musikdorf Ernen (Switzerland).
In 2021, in collaboration with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, a programme dedicated to the Quartetto Werther was broadcast live on RaiRadio3 and RaiReplay including the piano quartets of Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss.
Founded in Rome in 2016, the Quartetto Werther has been a member of the "Le Dimore del Quartetto" cultural enterprise since 2018. The ensemble studied at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito di Parma with members of the Trio di Parma and with Pierpaolo Maurizzi, teachers who are still an important reference point for the quartet. They have fostered advanced study of the quartet’s repertoire during important festivals and campuses including the International Chamber Music Campus organized by Jeunesse Musicale Deutschland and the Sessions of the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA).
Of great importance for the Quartet are also the advice and reflections on music and performance from Rainer Schmidt (second violin of the Hagen Quartet, professor at the Music Academy Basel) and Patrick Jüdt (Director of the Bern European Chamber Music Academy Session).
In 2021, the ensemble’s first CD "Fauré Piano Quartets" was released for the Dutch label Brilliant Classics, dedicated to the integral recording of Gabriel Fauré's piano quartets and supported by the Musica con le Ali association. The CD immediately received excellent reviews from the critics and was broadcast on Radio della Svizzera italiana as part of the programme “La Recensione” and on RAI Radio3 in the programmes "Primo Movimento" and "Radio3.
